Resource One Adult-Adolescent Mentor Program

Research shows that one of the most successful positive influences on a child’s life is a strong,  positive relationship with an adult. Our belief is all youth deserve access to influential adults in  their lives. Resource One removes the barriers children face when searching for guidance, and streamlines the process of finding a reliable, nurturing support system.

With the growing pace of technology, and access to negative influences in the media, it is almost  impossible to keep up with today’s youth trends. As parents and caregivers, we do our best to  focus our priorities on the safety, health, and emotional well-being of our children. Often, effective communication falls between the cracks. Leaving our youth to feel misunderstood and  isolated. Often, the problem is not with parent or child, but with an inability to effectively communicate feelings and needs. Resource One offers sessions and training for healthy, effective  communication strategies for engaging your youth and fostering open, positive relationships.

The school-to-prison pipeline is one that we wish was just a myth. Too often, children are placed  in the criminal system instead of given the resources and support needed to thrive as members of  the community. Our goal is to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline, while advocating for the  youth we serve. We achieve this by:

• Ongoing engagement and collaboration with law enforcement members 

• Implementing creative and safe outlets for youth to channel their feeling and express  themselves 

• Educating service providers and educators of more positive alternatives to crisis  alleviation 

• Providing crucial conversation strategies between youth and adults 

• Teaching youth healthy coping mechanisms for anger
